The scope of module covers; (1) causes and impacts of conflict with a specific look into workplaces, (2) relation and differences between conflict and mobbing, (3) features of conflict management system and (4) principles of conflict management system.
- Causes and Impacts of Conflict in Workplace: The scope is to discuss specific circumstances that cause conflict in workplaces by examining relevant surveys and scientific reports from different countries. The aim is to gain understanding on the relation between organizational culture and the causes of conflict. This topic will be linked with general understanding on the causes of conflict which are discussed in the main mediation training.
- Relation between Conflict and Mobbing: The scope is to analyze the (a) underlying causes, (b) impacts, and (c) escalation of mobbing and their differences from that of conflict. The aim is to increase awareness on mobbing and its close link with organizational culture and environment.
- Features of Conflict Management System: The scope is to enlighten (a) Power-based features in a conflict management system (e.g. workplace rules, administrative decisions), (b) Rights-based features (e.g. complaint and investigation procedures), (c) Interest-based features (e.g. mediation, conciliation), (d) Communication-based features (e.g. facilitation, conflict coaching, training). The aim is to increase awareness on necessity to combine different features in a unique way applicable to relevant workplace. This topic will be linked with causes of conflict in workplace.
- Principles of Conflict Management System: The scope is to enlighten (a) Integrity, (b) Competency, (c) Diversity, (d) Transformity principles in a conflict management system. The aim is to provide tools to the participants to combine different features mentioned above.
Learning outcomes
- Takeaway 1: Participants are expected to comprehend how to apply general conflict theories mentioned in the main mediation training into workplace conflicts. Such understanding is expected to lead the participants to increase their proficiency to analyze workplace conflicts. This takeaway is related to the first topic; “Causes and Impacts of Conflict in the Workplace”.
- Takeaway 2: Participants are expected to increase their awareness on the very destructive impacts of mobbing on both people and organization and the necessity for precautions. Such understanding is expected to lead the participants to increase their proficiency to construct more fruitful organization culture. This takeaway is related with second topic; “Relation between Conflict and Mobbing”.
- Takeaway 3: Participants are expected to have a road map for establishment of a conflict management system in a workplace and understanding on the necessity of cooperation of different professionals to build a system. Such understanding is expected to lead the participants to increase their proficiency to conduct efficient investigations, trainings, and guides in the workplace. This takeaway is related with third and fourth topic; “Features of Conflict Management System” and “Principles of Conflict Management System”.
